Gestures and direct manipulation for immersive virtual reality. (Gestes et manipulation directe pour la réalité virtuelle immersive)

چکیده
Virtual reality is a technology with applications in numerous fields (medical, automo-tive, etc.). This thesis focuses on immersive virtual spaces, and aims at studying the effects of thetwo major types of interfaces proposed (6 degree of freedom flystick, and finger-trackingsystem) on the user experience, and specifically for 3D object manipulation. We are in-terested in parameters such as ease of use, sense of presence, speed and precision offered. To do so, we design experiments to evaluate these parameters via tasks with measurablesuccess, and which are not field specific. In a first experiment, we study complex general purpose tasks, combining skills re-quired in everyday manipulations, such as grabbing, releasing, translating, rotating, andbalancing objects while walking. We then refine our study by observing the effects ofthose interfaces on the movements themselves, by decomposing them into individual andgrouped degrees of freedom. Lastly, we evaluate the applicability of our direct manip-ulation system in the context of a preliminary study on the use of virtual reality for thetreatment of Alzheimer’s disease. These studies analyze the properties of these interfaces to provide guidelines to thechoice of the most appropriate interface for future experiments.

Référentiels Spatiaux des Tâches d'Interaction et Caractéristiques de l'Utilisateur influençant la Performance en Réalité Virtuelle
In virtual reality, to adapt interfaces to users, two dimensions must be studied: the task and the user. The first dimension deals with interaction tasks in virtual reality, more precisely manipulation and locomotion. The study and the comparison of spatial properties of virtual and real environments allow us to propose tasks hierarchical models which show problematical interaction situations f...
متن کاملAn Immersive Programming System: Ougi
The Ougi immersive programming system employs abstract data visualization and manipulations utilizing virtual reality technologies. Its multimodal interfaces allow one to edit a program, to control its execution and to debug the program by direct manipulation and hand gestures in an immersive virtual environment. Ougi uses both textual and graphical representations and supports a subset of the ...
متن کاملAn acoustic ambience study by immersive sound recognition
For many years, architectural and urban ambiences have been the main study subject of our laboratory, dealing with the urban built shape interactions. Classical results are predictive numerical models, which provide parameters related to the environment physical factors. Through interaction with environmental parameters such as sound, the human being position through its perception of environme...
متن کاملDocking de protéines en réalité virtuelle Une approche hybride et multimodale
Protein docking studies how proteins combine with each other in 3d, in order to better understand their biological functions. The basic hypothesis of the french research projet CoRSAIRe is that Virtual Reality (VR) multimodal interactions can increase efficiency in reaching docking solutions. To this end, we have conducted an ergonomic analysis of the protein-protein current docking task. Using...
متن کاملInteractive Immersive Design Application: Analysis of Requirements
In this paper we report on the progress of an international EU/IMS research project to develop an Immersive free-form Design Application using Virtual Reality and Haptic Immersion Technologies. The results of a detailed Requirements Analysis for the application interaction are presented. The application uses a Virtual Sculpting metaphor to interactively define arbitrary formed shapes as they ar...
